Great place to snorkel!

Lovely Kiddel Bay stay!
Posted on: 6/22/2018
My husband & I had a hurricane-delayed honeymoon to USVI that included stays on both St Thomas & St John. We should’ve spent the entire vacation on St John! The Perch at Kiddel Bay was spectacular! With only a couple of friendly neighbors around, we felt like we were on a private island. We had a magnificent view of Kiddel Bay, which was just a short walk away, and perfect for snorkeling & exploring. The tidal pool was like an open aquarium with sea urchins, sea stars, hermit crabs, and lots of fish. We enjoyed scenic walks to Grootpan Bay, also great for snorkeling and beach-combing, and saw donkeys, hummingbirds, and an occasional fisherman come & go. We stayed outside on the deck as much as possible, to grill steaks, watch the stars, see the sunrise, and enjoy our morning coffee. The cottage was very spacious, had nice, comfortable furniture, well-stocked kitchen, and lots of amenities like the grill, beach chairs, beach towels, ice blocks, and a cooler. We are planning a return trip with my sons!!

Incredible gem in walking distance to an amazing beach
Posted on: 6/22/2018

We enjoyed a two week stay at Kiddel Bay Perch between February and March 2018. The house is situated in the most ideal location imaginable, and is just a 3 minute walk to its gorgeous and mostly private beach cove for snorkeling and sunbathing. The house itself was comfortable, spacious, and well-tooled for cooking and relaxing. When we had needs arise, the staff was very prompt in assisting us. We would gladly stay here again! Since the hurricanes of 2017 hit St. John island very hard, we weren’t quite sure what to expect in terms of the island being fully functional. Indeed, there was quite a lot of damage to the landscape of the island, and many of the more rural restaurants and bars were closed. But grocery stores were open, most all beaches and trails were open, we had consistent power (except one planned outage), and the roads were intact and easily drivable in our rental jeep. We love to cook, and we were able to easily keep ourselves well supplied with healthy food. The property management staff was very attentive to our needs, and was able to quickly supply us with things that we needed like a chef knife for cooking, an extra window air conditioner, extra beach chairs, etc. In our view, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was happy and accommodated. Also, I feel very confident that they will take action on the minor recommendations that we gave them after our stay to make the home even better. The ocean was beautiful, though there appeared to be some hurricane damage to the coral in the island’s less protected places. We saw an incredible amount of aquatic wildlife including sea turtles, many kinds of tropical fish, reef sharks, barracuda, squid, and much more. We did have to learn the time schedule of the noseums (tiny mosquito-like bugs) so that we wouldn’t get swarmed, but we adapted by being indoors during dusk. St. John is an incredible place, and this home at Kiddel Bay Perch is a gem.

Stayed at Kiddel Perch Dec 2009. It is exactly as described. Simple, clean, basic, with fantastic views and extreme privacy and quiet. This is the place to get away from it all and get back to basics.

My partner and our small dog spent 10 perfect days at Kiddle Perch. We have stayed in an authentic Japanese house in Kauai, The W in NYC, The Ritz in DC as well as many other special and unusual places. Kiddle Perch was our favorite vacation spot. We spent many hours enjoying the Zen-like setting

- If you are the type who would like to stay at a Westin - this is not for you. If you are looking for a romantic vacation in a spot that offers true island atmosphere, give this place a visit. Of course we fell in love with St. John - just our speed. We will return again every year.

I have to agree with the above comments,

The property manager was very helpful answering any questions we had in a timely fashion and meeting us after we picked up our jeep to guide us to the Perch.

If you are looking for off the beaten path this place is it.

Quiet except for the hypnotic sounds of the ocean and brush, amazing view of the stars, with the North facing deck you also get to view both sunrise and sunset, great snorkeling or launch point for kayaking is a quick walk down the road.

You'll need a jeep to get up the unpaved road from the paved if it rains but that is to be expected. It's so quiet that when someone actually does drive by it gets your attention.

The basic utensils in the kitchen, and the barbecue will suffice for most.

We can't wait to go back.

Kiddel Perch-prefect getaway for the nature lover
Posted on: 10/11/2018

I just got back from a fantastic stay at Kiddel Bay perch. It was very private and had all the amenities we needed during our stay. Fully equipped kitchen complete with gas grill and even a blender, which we enjoyed very much. The cottage is very basic, no frills. Ideal for the nature lover and to get away from it all. The ceiling fans kept it cool along with the ocean breeze through the screen windows. Can hear the ocean form the house. It has a fantastic view and a million stars come out at night If you are the type of person who likes resorts, this is not the place for you. Great snorkeling (gear at the house) on the bay below and Salt Pond Bay just a short walk away along with the famous Ram’s Trail Head. Highly recommend getting a jeep during your stay. The house down a bumpy dirt path way and its a bit of a drive to Cruz Bay and north shore. We loved the privacy of the perch. Property manager is very helpful and just a phone call away.

Just what we needed

This was the perfect place to unplug and recharge. Very private and secluded, clean and affordable. We would definitely return.

Beautiful Getaway
Posted on: 10/11/2018

Yes, it is off the beaten path and it is on the Southeast side of the island which is about a 40 minute drive from the Cruz Bay ferry port. The immediate road leading to Kiddel Perch is rocky, so make sure you rent a jeep, but it is absolutely beautiful and worth the drive.

The unit was clean, extremely spacious, the wrap around deck had amazing views, we saw shooting stars at night and clear waters in the day, and it is close to the best eats on the island (miss lucy's for breakfast and johnny cakes, tourist trap for lobster roll, skinny legs for burgers), about 10 minute drive to Calabash Market for groceries, and about a 2 minute drive to the Saltpond Beach. If you are looking for hotel amenities, this is not the place. There is no A/C but we went in the dead of summer and there was always a nice breeze that kept the place cool along with the ceiling fans in every room. Heat was really not an issue.

Communicating with the property manager was extremely easy and hassle-free. They provided all the necessary contact information (which we never had to use during our stay as we had no issues) as well as clear driving directions to Kiddel Perch.

The drive into Cruz Bay and beaches along the north shore were an easy drive, but we always looked forward to coming back to Kiddel Perch for true island rest and relaxation. We would definitely stay at Kiddel Perch again.

Private, perfect Perch.
Posted on: 10/11/2018

We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Perch. The accommodations were casual and very comfortable--just what we were looking for. The cottage is very private, with direct access to the stone beach at Kiddel Bay, which has great snorkeling. It is a few minutes' drive to sandy beaches, hiking trails and wonderful restaurants. There is a beautiful view of Kiddel Bay and the Caribbean Sea from every room, a continuous gentle breeze, and brilliant stars at night. We loved the deck from breakfast in the early morning light to stargazing late at night. It exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to return.

We spent 9 relaxing days at Kiddel perch. The house was clean and we enjoyed a nice breeze all vacation long. Definitely rent a jeep to get out here but then again you would be best with a jeep for exploring the whole island anyways. It is a 10 or so minute drive to Kalabash market and Coral Bay. There is a nice spot for lunch and delicious drinks 5 minutes away. As for the snorkeling, we found Kiddel Bay to be one of the best spots on the island. We saw sea turtles, squid, colorful fish and coral. Another 5 - 10 minutes down the road is beautiful Lameshur Bay and great hiking trails. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. The deck is perfect for evening relaxing (there is a grill) and morning coffee. Wifi worked well, there was a large clean shower, and a comfortable bed to look out at the Caribbean Sea. The skyscape at night is unbelievable. Do not hesitate to stay here!! We will be back. Definitely a gem!!!!

Best Vacation Spot Ever
Posted on: 10/11/2018

This' was our second time here. It bears revisiting which is the best indication of a great rental. It is a snorkeled paradise with easy access to the best beaches, hiking and natural beauty. The accommodations are very functional with great beds and linens, beach towels and plenty of cookware. We stocked up on food at the bigger market in Cruz Bay before we drove over and have not left this side of the island all week. We love the quiet. Where else can you have a whole beach all to yourself most of the time with sea turtles, Angel fish and so much more?

House, location, host - all perfect
Posted on: 10/11/2018

The house and location were all as described in the listing. The property manager was responsive in making the reservation, before we arrived, and in promptly addressing a problem after we arrived. The setting is perfect if you want to really get away. Great restaurants within 15 minutes. Beware, a rough road that requires a Jeep or similar vehicle. Kiddle Bay is a rocky beach, but the walk to the Salt Pond Bay parking area, a sand beach, is 10 minutes.
